The Legends of Torre de Ses Ànimes

Torre de Ses Ànimes is an ancient defensive structure in Banyalbufar, steeped in history and mystery. Built in the 14th century, it is believed to have served as protection against pirate attacks. Its name comes from the legend of two lost souls who inhabit the tower. The legend tells of Margarita, a young noblewoman who fell deeply in love with a pirate captain. Their love was forbidden, and to escape the disapproval of their families, they planned to flee together. However, on the night of their escape, the captain was betrayed and murdered by his own men. Margarita, heartbroken, threw herself from the top of the tower, dying instantly. Since then, it is said that the souls of Margarita and the pirate captain roam the tower. Some claim to have heard their laments on windy nights, while others have seen their silhouettes in the windows. The legend also speaks of mysterious lights that turn on and off in the tower, and of objects that move without explanation.There are different versions of the legend, but all agree that Torre de Ses Ànimes is a place charged with mystery and paranormal energy. Its location is a favorite for cycling tours, with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea combined with the natural beauty of the Serra de Tramuntana. Cyclists can enjoy winding routes that pass through olive groves, picturesque villages, and coastal paths, immersing themselves in the charming atmosphere and cultural richness of the island.
